Ritchie Announces Additional £550k To Aid Armagh Scheme

An increase in funding of £550,000 towards a public realm scheme for Armagh City has been announced by Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie.

The additional funding was required to ensure the successful delivery of the scheme. This additional funding brings DSD's contribution to £3.64m of a total scheme cost of £5.8m with Armagh City and District Council and Road Service contributing the balance.

The work will include new street lay-outs, a one-way traffic system and proper provisions for parking, loading and deliveries in a bid to ease congestion. Eleven streets are to get a facelift with new lighting, paving, seating, bins and greenery.

Minister Ritchie said: "This scheme is another milestone in the rejuvenation of Armagh City and will see much needed improvements made to the appearance of the city. These improvements will enhance Armagh City centre with its unique architectural heritage and cultural strengths making it more appealing to tourists, residents and businesses alike."

Ritchie believes that this scheme will be the catalyst for further developments in Armagh City.
