Dublin City Council has reportedly approved plans for a 15-storey tower in the Ballsbridge area.
Reports out this morning said permission has been granted for the building as part of a €600m development on the site of the former UCD veterinary college.
The development will include luxury apartments, offices and shops.
However, it is likely that An Bord Pleanála will appeal the decision as residents and councillors in the affluent south Dublin area have been opposed to high-rise buildings in the past and are expected to vehemently oppose the new plans.
