Developers in Northern Ireland may be obligated to contribute to the provision of social housing, if proposals get approved.
Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie has told her Assembly scrutiny committee that she is considering the plans and intends to make an announcement on Tuesday outlining her social housing vision.
Ms Ritchie and Environment Minister Arlene Foster are also examining how government land sales could finance new social and affordable homes.
"Minister Foster and I are currently considering the issue, that would provide money through developer contributions and more land sales to build more houses throughout the spectrum," she said.
Ms Ritchie said that she had been impressed with similar schemes in London and Dublin about the provision of social housing, but was not prepared to detail her plans before Tuesday's announcement.
