Landowner And Builder Fined For Illegal Dumping

Landowner, Marietta McKavanagh (57), of Derryola Bridge Road, Aghalee, was fined £2,250 at Craigavon Magistrates Court today for illegal waste disposal.

Riverside Construction (Down) Ltd, of Bridge Street, Banbridge, was also fined £500 at the same court for two offences under the Waste and Contaminated Land (NI) Order 1997.

Environment and Heritage Service (EHS) officers found controlled waste deposited at the Derryola Bridge Road site. This included clay, construction and demolition waste, wood, timber and plastics. This land was registered to Mrs McKavanagh and was not authorised to accept any waste material.


The material deposited on the site originated from renovation work at a store in Portadown.

Riverside Construction was responsible for the waste removal from this site. On 28 June 2007, an Article 27 Notice requiring the landowner, Mrs McKavanagh, to remove the waste was issued.

On a follow-up visit on 24 August 2007 EHS officers observed that the notice had not been complied with.
