'New Era' With Signing Of City Boundary Extension Order

The signing of the Limerick City Boundary Extension Order 2008 heralded a new phase in the ongoing development and regeneration of Limerick City and County. So says the Cathoairleach of Limerick County Council.

Whilst reiterating Limerick County Council's support for the boundary extension, Councillor Kevin Sheahan said that such backing had been pledged on a once-off basis in full and final settlement of boundary issues as they affect Limerick and its environs.

The Cathaoirleach made his comments at this evening's official signing ceremony at the Watch House Cross Library in Moyross. Among those in attendance at the event were John Gormley, Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, and officials of Limerick City Council and Limerick City Council's boundary.

Councillor Kevin Sheahan stated that the extension would help establish of the Mid-West as a strong Region, with Limerick City as its centre.

"Limerick County Council recognises the need to develop such a Region. Therefore, it has approved the limited extension, in the interests of the overall development of Limerick. Indeed, our presence in Moyross today is symbolic of the combined vision and mandate of the Government, Limerick City Council and Limerick County Council to deliver a brighter and inclusive future for Limerick and its people," he explained.

Councillor Sheahan continued: "Our common goal dictates that communities across Limerick City and County are encouraged, developed and facilitated in every way possible. The Regeneration Initiative for the Moyross area and the Boundary extension make this goal more easily attainable."

He indicated that Limerick County Council was proud of the valuable service it had provided for customers located within the Boundary Extension Area.
