Two Northern Ireland companies have won a €45 million contract to construct a dual carriageway in Co Offaly.

Graham Projects and PT Williams are to build the 8.6 mile dual carriageway bypass around Tullamore, The two year scheme, which will employ around 200 people, will involve the construction of seven bridges, a canal and a railway line.

Director of Graham Projects Leo Martin said: "The Tullamore scheme forms part of the Irish Government's overall programme of improvements to relieve congestion and meet the national objectives of promoting road safety."

The Co Down based firm, which employs over 800 people, has previously worked on several projects in the Republic including the Macken Street Bridge, the FAI Headquarters and the Dargan Bridge. The company has also been involved in the North's cross harbour M3 road and rail links as well as the major Westlink improvements.

"Graham has completed a number of key projects in the south in recent years both in the private and public sector and has in the region of €100 million of work across various projects in the Republic at the moment," Mr Martin said.
