Warnings have been issued to a number of residents in east Belfast that there may be asbestos in their homes.

The Housing Executive have identified there may be asbestos in the roof spaces in around 100 homes in four streets near Stormont.

However, while 28 houses know they have the problem, dozens more letters have been sent to residents in the area, which may be affected.

The affected houses are in Summerhill Avenue, Cloghan Crescent, Cloghan Park and Cloghan Gardens.

Some residents have complained that they were only informed of the dangers recently, but the dangerous material was actually detected last October.

The Housing Executive has responded saying the health risk is "minimal" and the asbestos will be removed as a precaution.

The removal job, carried out by a specialist contractor, will begin soon.
