The Republic's Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Mary Coughlan has today welcomed news that the Commissioners of Public Works have completed plans regarding the re-development of the former Garda Station in Ballyshannon.
It is proposed that the building on the Mall in Ballyshannon would become the headquarters for the Garda Regional Traffic Corps.
The Commissioners of Public Works propose to carry out alterations and additions to include demolishing out-buildings and removal of a mast. Subsequently, it is envisaged that a new 2.4 metre high palisade boundary fence would be erected with new entrance driveways, a garage and shed to the rear as well as ancillary site works and internal alterations.
The Minister said: "I am aware that this matter was raised at town council level in Ballyshannon and there had been some concern that the building might fall into disrepair since the relocation of the Garda station to a state-of-the-art base at Portnason. However, the OPW have progressive and dynamic plans for the old station which is located in the heart of Ballyshannon."
Drawings and particulars of the proposed development are available for inspection at the Office of Public Works, Marino House, Finisklin Business Park, Sligo and at the new Garda station at Portnason in Ballyshannon.
