A developer has parked a caravan at the entrance of a golf course in Cork and has vowed not to move until he has been paid nearly €700,000 in court awarded fees, the Irish Times has reported.
Mel Flanagan of Irish Golf Design has said he will not move from the Blarney Golf Resort until he has been paid, by Kelcar Developments, money that was awarded by the courts in December.
His company was employed to build the 18-hole John Daly-designed course three years ago. However, towards the end of the building work a dispute arose which ended their involvement in the project.
The dispute was brought before the High Court and in December it ruled that Irish Golf Design was to be paid €678,268 in costs and interest penalties. But as of yet, the company has not received any payment.
Mr Flanagan told the paper: "I am here to get my money. We owe Revenue money, we owe our sub-contractors money, we have got a bridging loan from Ulster Bank. We are an award-winning company. The golf course out here is as good as we have ever built."
Mr Flanagan alleged that when the €3 million contract was terminated, and sub-contractors were brought in, the course was already 95% finished.
But, Kelcar Director Frank McCarthy said he was willing to pay the awarded money but Mr Flanagan would not agree to a certain process. He said Kelcar Developments would not pay the money "in advance of any formal legal agreement" but he was open to further discussion.
