There has been a sizeable decrease in the number of people employed in the Irish construction sector, it has been revealed today.
New figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show that employment in private firms (with five or more persons) in the construction industry decreased by 11.1% in February 2008 by comparison with February 2007.
The monthly employment index decreased from 110.7 in February 2007 to 98.4 in February 2008. The final figure for January 2008 showed a decrease of 10.0% when compared with January 2007.
In all, there have been no incidences of monthly increases in employment in private construction firms over the twelve months.
