Tesco Ireland has announced plans to open 16 new stores across the country this year, in a move that will create 1,225 new jobs.
The news follows the company's announcement of a 9.8% increase in sales last year, to €2.9bn, with Irish profits of around €180m.
Tesco Ireland Chief Executive Tony Keohane said the new stores will open in a number of towns around the country, including Cashel, Tullow and Birr.
It will spend €150m opening the outlets and will expand and improve existing ones.
