Work on the new Tesco Ireland supermarket in Baileboro is to start shortly according to a company spokesperson.

It's hoped that the new store will open in October, creating 130 jobs in the local area.

Before construction of the facility can begin, it needs a fire certificate under health and safety legislation, which is expected on Friday.

Tesco Ireland was granted full-planning permission for the new 30,000 sq ft supermarket on Thomas Street last year.

South East construction firm Mannings, which has been the main contractor on many of Tesco's new stores across Ireland, will led the construction project.

The single-story structure will be situated close to the carpark at the back of Main Street.

The development will also include recycling facilities, cycle stands, pedestrian footpaths, lighting, boundary treatment, landscaping measures, new access arrangements and all site works.
