Irish Minister Eamon Ryan, has announced the appointment of Dermot Nolan as the third member of the Commission for Energy Regulation.
Mr Nolan, who will take up his position next June, has a strong background in sectoral regulation and competition policy. He is currently Director of the Retail Division and Senior Economic Advisor at the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg).
His responsibilities include retail and consumer issues, such as regulatory costing, tariff setting and ensuring non-discriminatory access for non-incumbent market players.
Prior to joining ComReg, Mr Nolan was a manager in the Mergers Division of the Competition Authority, where he was directly involved in complex negotiations on high profile mergers.
Mr Nolan holds a PhD, in economics from Yale University as well as a BA (Hons) in economics from Trinity College, Dublin. He also served as a Lecturer in Economics at the Royal Holloway College in the University of London.
He will join Commissioner Tom Reeves, Chairperson, and Commissioner Michael Tutty at the Commission for Energy Regulation. Concluding Minster Ryan wished Mr Nolan every success in his new career and expressed full confidence that he will bring his wide experience to bear in the regulation of the electricity and gas sectors.
