Northern Ireland Construction Industry Buys Into Modern Procurement Practice

Constructing Excellence in Northern Ireland (CEni) has launched an eight-week programme in Modern Procurement Training at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown.

The programme has attracted delegates from a variety of organisations throughout Northern Ireland and aims to assist the construction industry in adopting best practice in procurement, as well as promoting best value and collaborative working.

The programme designed for both private sector companies and public sector bodies is essential training for all professionals involved in the procurement process including; clients, contractors, consultants and suppliers.

This is the first time a programme of this nature has been available in Northern Ireland and covers a wide variety of topics including; Client Leadership and Collaborative Working; The Use of eProcurement in Northern Ireland; Bidding for and Winning PPP Projects; Managing Projects to Successful Conclusions and critically examines procurement routes used to deliver major investment programmes.

Colin Smyth, CEni Development Manager said: "The Modern Procurement Training Programme is a unique opportunity for those involved in construction procurement in Northern Ireland to gain knowledge in many different areas of procurement. The programme is suitable for professionals in all sectors and really does provide something of interest for everyone.

"The programme brings together a wide range of experts who will pass on their knowledge and expertise through case studies and research, and the programme has been put together to enable delegates to practically apply knowledge gained to their day-to-day procurement and project management functions."

Due to initial success and demand for the programme, CEni is already preparing the autumn training programme, which will run from October 2008.

Garrett Harty, CEni Development Officer and Programme Co-ordinator, commented: "We have been very impressed by the level of interest in the programme and it was agreed at an early stage that due to demand we would have to consider running the programme again in the Autumn."
