Output volume in the Irish building and construction sector fell by 14.9% in the last three months of 2007.
This is compared with the same period in 2006, data released by the Irish Central Statistics office today showed.
The slowdown in residential building has been even more marked, with production volumes in the fourth quarter down 31.4% compared with the same period the previous year. The value of housing output dropped 29.4% in the same period.
The Production in Building and Construction Index also shows that the value of production decreased by 12.4% over the same period.
However, the volume of production in civil engineering increased by 14.1 per cent year-on-year, reflecting continued investment in National Development projects.
This data comes the same day as a similar Northern Ireland sourced bulletin reported a 0.7-point drop in construction during the same period.
