This week's intensive search for a hill walker missing on the scenic slopes of Benbulben Mountain has ended in tragedy.

The body of a Polish man - believed to have been a construction worker - who was tragically killed when he fell from a cliff on the mountain on Monday, is to be formally identified later today.

As a result of the accident, the Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue Team are also issuing a warning to all hill walkers.

The man - who's in his 30s - was discovered by members of the search operation team at 4.10pm yesterday afternoon at the bottom of an extremely high cliff in the Gleniff Valley.

It's believed he was a construction worker who had been living in Dublin, but who was visiting friends in Sligo for the bank holiday weekend.

The rescue team members are kept busy as hill walking is becoming an increasingly popular attraction to tourists visiting the North West, many of whom are ill-prepared for the slopes.

Alan Sayers of the Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue Team said although conditions may be favourable there are some basic measures people must bear in mind.
