£250k East Belfast Resurfacing Due To Commence

A quarter of a million pound roads investment in east Belfast, due to commence next week, aims to strengthen roads and improve skidding resistance.

The 500-metre stretch, on the A20 Upper Newtownards Road, Dundonald, spanning East Link Road and the Comber Road, will undergo resurfacing from Monday 19 May.

The scheme, which should be completed by early June, will begin with 12 days of preparation works, with subsequent lane closures occurring during off peak hours.

The Roads Service said rush hour traffic will continue running in both directions, due to the 9.30am to 4.30pm scheduling of work.

The surfacing is programmed to take place between 8pm on Saturday 31 May and 10pm on Sunday 1 June 2008 and the following Sunday 8 June 2008 from 2am to 10pm.

For health and safety reasons this surfacing will require a one-way closure and traffic will only be permitted in a country bound direction.

City bound traffic will be diverted by East Link Road and Comber Road.

The Roads Service has warned, due to the heavy volume of traffic on this arterial route it is inevitable that delays and disruptions will occur.

The department has planned traffic management systems, with the aim of minimising the effect on residents, local businesses, the hospital and the travelling public.

Planned completion for the project is Sunday 8 June 2008.
