Another 400 Limerick homes are set to be demolished, to make way for a regeneration masterplan,
Houses in the Southhill estates of Carew Park and Kincora Park look likely to face bulldozers, like their neighbours in O’Malley and Keyes Park.
The latter areas had been earmarked for demolition since last year but it has only came to light that the former, Carew and Kincora Parks, viewed as more settled estates, could also be knocked down.
Full consultation, involving local residents of the affected areas, has lead the way for this new element of the Limerick regeneration programme, which will be featured in a masterplan, expected to be published at the end of September.
If the bulldozers are brought in, the total number of homes demolished as part of the programme will stretch to 2,300, inclusive of Southill, Moyross, Ballinacurra Weston and St Mary's Park.
The man leading the regeneration project, Brendan Kenny, said the reason the masterplan deadline has been pushed back from June to September is to allow for a longer consultation period. The Chief Executive said this would also provide more time to examine the demolition proposals in the latest plans.
