An urgent warning has been issued to workers on construction sites of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning from generators used in unventilated areas.
The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) have also appealed to employers to remind their employees of the dangers of using generators in enclosed areas.
Instructions on the correct usage include ensuring generators are used outdoors and must never be used indoors unless specific provision has been made for conducting the exhaust gases from the engine into the open air and ensuring the working area is adequately ventilated to prevent danger to health from the exhaust gases.
An information sheet, warning of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning, has been produced by the HSA.
