Conference To Examine Pros And Cons Of Sustainable Developments

Construction News Image
Developers across Ireland have been invited to attend a special one-day event in Dublin, next month, aimed at examining the benefits of sustainable building projects.

The Sustainabuild 2008 building conference will discuss the costs and profitability in the sustainable building sector, and how firms are set to feel the impact from demand for sustainable developments.

Conference organisers have promised to "leave the green rhetoric out" and look at key business issues, such as sustainable building costs compared with traditional build.

The conference will look at the payback for investing in sustainable building practices, and whether they really deliver savings for customers and the industry in general.

Laws and regulations will be explained to inform guests on the timeframes for deadlines and possible repercussions for non-compliance.

Delegates will also address the possible implication of domestic and European 'green' policies on the construction sector.

The conference hopes to determine whether building firms are more likely to secure contracts if they incorporate sustainable systems into projects.

The conference will place emphasis on the possibility of measuring sustainability, as organisers insist sustainable building is now "very much part of mainstream construction" industry.

Organisers have said a recent World Business Council for Sustainable Development report revealed firms in the construction industry routinely overestimate the cost of green building by as much as 300%.

The conference will be held at O'Reilly Hall Conference Centre, University College Dublin on Thursday 12th June.
