Ireland-based WYG Awarded Multi-Million Balkan Contract

An international consultancy firm, with several bases in Ireland, has signed a £15 million deal to help rebuild the former Yugoslavia.

Multi-functioning White Young Green is tasked with developing crumbling infrastructure in the six Balkan countries.

The European Commission awarded the contract, which makes provisions for improvement projects in Albania, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.

WYG announced its successful tender bid during the unveiling of a pre-close trading update, for the year ending 30 June.

The firm said it had experienced a strong trading period, despite "difficulties in the wider economic climate".

WYG said it was upbeat about the new financial year.

The group also announced it had successfully claimed €1.8m in research and development tax credits during the year, and expects to save some €440,000 a year in tax through the same route from now on.
