A conference will be held this weekend to advise sports clubs on issues related to selling off land, to release equity.

Joint organisers, law firm William Fry and property consultancy, Knight Frank, are holding the conference in Portlaoise on Saturday July 12.

William Fry's Commercial Property Partner Brian O'Callaghan has said clubs wanting to maintain a steady slow of funding should consider using their grounds as an asset.

The Moving The Goalposts Sports Club Redevelopment Conference will explain how all sports clubs from GAA, Rugby, Soccer, Golf, Tennis and Hockey can secure their financial future and take their facilities into a different league by relocating to new grounds.

Speakers at the conference will look at case study scenarios, such as the Portlaoise GAA Club relocation deal, which was valued at €35 million.

Legal issues involved in transactions will also be addressed including title, funding issues and construction implications. Legal experts will provide this briefing.

One of the more familiar faces addressing the conference will be Irish Rugby League player Mick Galwey, who was capped for Ireland over 40 times.

Delegates will also hear from residential development expert Stuart Walker, who represents private clients in the acquisition and the disposal of sites and land banks on the periphery of major towns and cities of Ireland.
