An international project management consultant has announced it is to work on the largest ever roads scheme to be undertaken in Northern Ireland.
ChandlerKBS, will provide cost management services on the A5 Western Transport Corridor Project.
The A5 WTC is one of five key transport corridor upgrades identified in the Regional Transportation Strategy (RTS) for Northern Ireland and represents a significant link in longer-term plans to improve connections between Dublin, the city of Derry and the North West.
Ian Morris, Partner at ChandlerKBS, said: "We are working for DRD Roads Service Northern Ireland alongside Mouchel and Rowsell Wright as client advisors, to ensure that this important scheme is successfully delivered within a challenging timescale."
Route corridor development is underway leading to the announcement of a preferred route, which is anticipated by mid-2009.
Publication of draft statutory orders is expected in late 2010 and public inquiries are likely to be held in 2011.
The proposed route is approximately 88km and will provide a new dual carriageway from Londonderry to the border at Aughnacloy where it will link with proposed improvements to the N2 in the Republic of Ireland.
A strategic cross border link with the Republic of Ireland at Strabane is also planned.
ChandlerKBS provides independent cost and project management consultancy services across a wide range of sectors and has experienced a strong growth in transportation, hotel, nuclear, public, retail and the leisure sectors.
