Major Works Kick-Off Near Dublin Airport

Major redevelopment work has commenced near Dublin airport and is expected to cause travel disruption for a 100-metre stretch.

Traffic has been reduced to one lane; with a stop go system installed for the duration of the works.

The work is being carried out to facilitate ongoing development in and around Dublin Airport, 335m of the existing foul sewer along the Old Swords Road (R132), from the Carlton Hotel to beyond the Collinstown Cross junction must be replaced.

New water and gas mains will be laid at the same time. This work is being undertaken by Fingal County Councils Water Services Department's Direct Labour Crew and will take approximately six months to complete.

The new sewer is 900m in diameter and must be laid along the middle of the road at a depth of four metres as this is the only available space as the rest of the road is congested with other underground services.

In order carry out this work safely, sections of this road has been reduced to one lane of traffic during the construction period.

However, in order to take advantage of the construction work and to minimise future disruption in the same area, the council will also be replacing the existing water main which runs along this road while also allowing Bord Gais to lay a new gas main along the same stretch of road.

Local access will be maintained at all times while this work is being done and every effort will be made to minimise disruption to all local businesses.

A full time traffic management company will be on site for the duration of the works and Fingal County Council will provide weekly updates on the level of disruption and diversions in place

Road users are asked to follow the diversion signs in place or to use the M1 as an alternative route. Work will continue until at least November 25th 2008. Any unfinished work will be completed in early January 2009.
