Aspects of heritage in South Dublin County include the natural environment, architecture, archaeology, and cultural inheritance.
A Council spokesperson said: "It is all around us, reflecting all that we have inherited from preceding generations. It helps to define us and it influences the way we live our lives."
The importance of the area's heritage has been recognised in the South Dublin County Development Plan 2004-2010, where the preparation of a County Heritage Plan is a stated objective.

The County Heritage Plan will be a five-year programme, listing broad objectives dealing with heritage issues on a county-wide basis.
It will offer a broad framework within which the efforts and initiatives of the council, local groups and state agencies can operate to conserve and manage all aspects of heritage in the county on a partnership basis.
The Council said this approach would provide an opportunity to identify heritage issues and heritage needs at a local level, and to address them locally, within a regional and national framework.
South Dublin County Council has encouraged participation in the preparation of the County Heritage Plan and has planned five public consultation meetings, to be held throughout the county.
