Donegal Heritage Week kicks-off this Sunday, marking the seventeenth year of built environment appreciation in the county.
Since 1991, European countries have celebrated their heritage over the course of European Heritage Days, a joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Union.
In Ireland, Heritage Week is coordinated by The Heritage Council in conjunction with Local Authority Heritage Officers.
Over 1,000 events are taking place across the country throughout the week.
The main aims of 'Heritage Week' are to raise awareness of natural, built and cultural heritage and to encourage its conservation and preservation.
There are over 40 events taking place across County Donegal in recognition of Heritage Week.
The Cultural Services Division of Donegal County Council has organised over 15 free events.
