A County Down businessman appearing at Newry Magistrates' court on 22 August 2008 was fined for breaches of waste management legislation.
Francis Joseph Donnelly (57) of Mountain Road, Cloghoge was fined a total of £200 plus £49 court costs.
Northern Ireland Environment Agency officers investigated a site at Mountain Road Cloghoge, owned by Mr Donnelly, where substantial quantities of controlled wastes were deposited. Wastes identified on site were metals, plastics, End of Life Vehicles (ELVs) and parts of ELVs.
Mr Donnelly pleaded guilty to two breaches of article 4 of the Waste and Contaminated Land (NI) Order 1997 and was fined £100 on each count plus £49 costs.
Meanwhile, a County Down man has been fined at Newry Magistrates' court for breaches of waste management legislation.
George Milliken (39) of Mossvale Road, Dromore, appearing in court on 22 August 2008, was fined a total of £300 plus court costs of £139.
On 24 August 2007, officers from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency investigated a site at Mossvale Road, Dromore owned by Mr Milliken, where a substantial quantity of controlled wastes, in the form of end of life vehicles and parts of end of life vehicles, was deposited. The End of Life vehicles and parts mainly consisted of agricultural machinery.
The site did not have a licence to operate as an authorised treatment facility for end of life vehicles. Officers visited the site on three more separate occasions and noted that the site had not been cleared.
Mr Milliken pleaded guilty on three waste charges under The Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997 and was fined £100 on each charge, a total of £300.
