Kitt Welcomes Extra €5m Funding For Galway Water

A water conservation scheme, in Galway, has been awarded €5.7 million in additional grant aid.

Local TD Michael Kitt welcomed the extra funding, announced by Environment, Heritage and Local Government Minister John Gormley.

The county council's Water Conservation Programme's total grant support has now tipped €7.9m

Mr Kitt said: "The main aim of the programme is to reduce the amount of water lost through leakages from water distribution systems.

"Water Conservation is an integral part of the Department's Water Services Investment Programme and is a key to the sustainable use of water resources.

"I am pleased that this additional funding will go towards reducing the amount of water that needs to undergo expensive treatment and will lead to significant savings to the council," added the former senator.
