WYG Profits Up 31% - In The Face Of Economic Gloom

A global engineering consultant, with bases in Ireland, has reported health results following the acquisition of international and public sector contracts.

White Young Green have seen a pre-tax profit rise of 31%, the strength of these results is contrasted by the slowdown in the international property market, amid a general global economic slump.

Pre-tax profits reached €26.4m to the year end 30 June 2008. This was up £16m on last year's figures.

The firm's turnover also grew 28% on last year's results to €355.9m.

Public sector contracts and international schemes compounded the positive results and were attributed to the 14% of organic growth.

Three acquisitions made by the firm this year also impacted performance.

This included the buy-out of Irish owned infrastructure consultant PH McCarthy for an aggregate of £34.4m, transport consultant Savell Bird & Axon and financial consultant Management Consultants Group.

The new firms are working "in line with expectations" and have integrated well into the group, according to White Young Green.

Company chairman Peter Wood said: "It gives me great pleasure to report another excellent year for White Young Green marked by strong double-digit organic growth across primary skill groups and geographies."

The consultants have a forward order book of €504m, and have stressed it is excellently placed to overcome challenging market conditions.

The firm has several Irish offices, including Athlone, Limerick, Waterford and Dublin.
