Ballyclare Police Station is to undergo a reported £200,000 facelift, the PSNI has announced.
The refurbishment work will include the introduction of a new reception area, improved office space and the upgrade of security fencing.
Completion of the work is expected by the end of November.
Fears of closure have been allayed after the Police Service revealed, "there are currently no plans to close the station or downgrade any of the services provided there".
A PSNI spokesperson said: "The station is currently being refurbished and upgraded to provide more suitable access and ease of use for the Ballyclare community who use the station and also the police officers who work there."
DPP Chair for the area Tom Campbell has welcomed the "long overdue" work.
Mr Campbell told the Newtownabbey Times: "The current works, which are near completion, will result in a much more user friendly reception area for the public.
"This will include better facilities, including toilets for people with disabilities.
"Overall the works will provide a much improved facility for everyone who visits the station as well as for those who will continue to work there," he added.
The Police declined to reveal exactly how much is being spent on the work, however, media reports have suggested the upgrade scheme could cost in the region of £200,000.
