Irish Transport Minister Noel Dempsey has officially opened a new railway station in west Dublin, as part of the €350m Kildare Route Project.
The station, located on the Kildare commuter line, replaces the former Clondalkin station, which admitted its last passengers last night.
The new Clondalkin Fonthill railway station offers extra facilities, particularly improved accessibility for wheelchairs and blind and deaf customers.
The redeveloped facility also incorporates a 200-space park-and-ride facility for cars.
The Kildare Project is aimed at increasing services at all stations along the route, and should be completed by 2010.
