Despite gloomy news from the UK chain Homebase earlier this week, Limerick has today welcomed the opening of a new DIY superstore.
The Wickes store has brought with it 40 new jobs for the area, and the chain is expected to open a further 15 outlets across Ireland in the next five years.
More than 400 people will eventually be employed in the outlets.
Moritz Trading, which has agreed a franchise deal with the British retail chain, says it believes the Irish stores can prosper despite the economic downturn.
The store was officially opened by Limerick TD Willie O'Dea.
