A two-day Green Infrastructure Conference will conclude in Dublin today, after providing a platform for experts in sustainable architecture and building.

The Grand Hotel in Malahide played host to the conference, which aimed to share experiences of 'green infrastructure' planning and delivery.

Green infrastructure is defined by the the networks of green areas that provide multiple social, economic and environmental benefits to society.

Measures discussed at the conference included protecting nature and natural systems, providing a network of green space for people, and underpinning economic prosperity by creating a high-quality environment.

The conference was the first of its kind to be held in Ireland, and brought together a wide-range of expertise from the USA, England, Scotland, The Netherlands, Sweden and Ireland, including leading practitioners from a variety of different backgrounds.

Delegates were addressed by Irish Environment Minister John Gormley, who delivered the keynote speech.

Other attendees included planners, architects, engineers, ecologists, elected officials, community representatives, academics, landscape and parks professionals and many others interested in exploring the development of green infrastructure planning and delivery in Ireland.
