Contracts For Major Water Scheme In Cork Placed

Cork County Council has placed contracts totalling €4m for major upgrade work on water supply schemes in Dripsey and Coachford.

The work will also involve the construction of a new wastewater treatment to serve the village of Rathcormac.

Jointly funded by the Department of Environment and Cork County Council, the main contract has been awarded to Ml Lynch Civil Engineering Ltd.

WYG Engineering (Ireland) Ltd will act as the consulting engineer.

Works costing €3 million will encompass a new pump house at Inniscarra Water Works; 18.8 km of new watermains from Inniscarra to Dripsey, and from Upper Dripsey Cross to Coachford, as well as an upgrade of the networks in both villages; and a new storage reservoir at Agharinagh.

Work is due to commence on the new Agharinagh Reservoir at the end of this month.

Pipe laying in roads will commence in January 2009.

Contractors for the Wastewater Treatment Plant at Rathcormac are EPS Pumping & Treatment Systems, Mallow.

The €1.2m contract is for the design, supply, installation & initial commissioning of a new Wastewater Treatment Plant for a 4,000 PE design capacity to serve the village of Rathcormac.

The new Wastewater Treatment Plant will allow Rathcormac village to develop from a socio-economic point of view and the local environment would benefit from a reduced impact from wastewater.

A contract period of 36 weeks is envisaged by the contractor for completion of the works.
