£500k Warrenpoint Improvement Works Announced

More than half a million pounds has been allocated for regeneration works aimed at improving Warrenpoint town centre, in County Down.

The funding was announced by Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie, who said the £530,000 scheme would focus on installing underground cables, upgrading footpaths and increasing street lighting in Queen Street.


Work is expected to begin in January and run until March.

Ms Ritchie said: "The scheme being announced today will further enhance the public realm in Warrenpoint town centre, making it more appealing to residents, businesses and visitors."

Implemented by the DSD’s Regional Development Office, in partnership with Newry and Mourne District Council, Ms Richie said the public realm scheme would compliment other works undertaken in area by the private sector.

She said the Warrenpoint project "has the potential to act as a catalyst in reinvigorating the town centre to improve trading conditions".
