A boil water notice affecting 2,000 customers in Adare, County Limerick, has been lifted.

The notice was put in place by the local council on 5 December following the detection of a deterioration in the water quality leaving the Water Treatment Plant in Adare.

Extensive testing by the Local Authority’s Environmental Laboratory staff has shown that the water being supplied at the Adare Water Treatment Plant continues to meet the drinking water standards.

Mr Donal Brennan, Senior Engineer, Water Services, Limerick County Council, said: "The introduction of a boil notice was deemed a necessary precautionary measure to ensure that public health was not put at risk.

"Drinking water restrictions affecting 700 households in Adare and surrounding areas have now been lifted. Limerick County Council will continue to monitor the water supply to ensure compliance with water quality standards."

There are now no drinking water alerts affecting water consumers in County Limerick.
