Ballinruan Community Centre, near Crusheen has been awarded €690.20 under the Government's Scheme of Community Support for Older People.
The centre was among fifty-one organisations nationally to receive grants under the scheme, which is administered by local community and voluntary groups and is funded by the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.
The allocation follows less than a week after Kilkee Community Alert was allocated €2,245 under the same scheme.
Welcoming the news, Clare TD Tony Killeen said: "The scheme aims to improve the security of older members of the community. Funding is available towards the once-off cost of installing socially monitored alarm systems and small items of physical security such as security lighting, smoke alarms, door chains, and window and door locks."
Mr Killeen added: "During these winter months particularly, the provision of these alarms and security equipment will bring great peace of mind and a sense of security to many vulnerable older people. Also at this time of year I would like thank the many volunteers and community workers throughout County Clare for the huge amount of hard work they put in for the benefit of older people in their respective communities."
Numerous other local groups have benefited from funding under the under the scheme of Community Supports for Older People in the past year, including Kilmaley District Daycare Centre, Kilmihil Community Development, Ballynacally Community Alert, Inagh Development Ltd, Meelick Parteen Coonagh Senior Citizens, Shannonside Carers Group, Caring for Carers Clare, Kilrush Family Resource Centre Ltd and Cratloe Community Council.
