Repairs engineers are still reeling from the damage caused by heavy gales at the weekend, which reeked havoc for telecoms provider Eircom.
Today the firm's nationwide network was still recovering from what a spokesman described as "very severe and dangerous" storm conditions.
Customers in Mayo and Louth, as well those in parts of Kilkenny and Waterford, were worst affected, Eircom said.
"The gale force winds, heavy rainfall and lightning storms have resulted in a nationwide trail of destruction," the company said in a statement.
"There are a large number of locations with significant infrastructural damage to overhead wires caused by falling trees as well as a large number of fallen and damaged telephone poles."
Eircom reported up to 7,300 telephone faults on its network, adding it expected this number to rise in the coming days.
However, Customers have been assured that significant extra resources had been deployed to restore service as quickly as possible.
