'Inside-Out' Insulation By Greenspan

Construction News Image
Leading Irish construction firm Greenspan Products has introduced a cost-effective and energy-efficient insulation system that insulates buildings from the outside.

Outsulation is an Exterior Insulation Finish System (EIFS) applied to the outside of exterior walls.

Greenspan said it acknowledged the fact that insulation is actually more effective when placed on the outside of a building.

Suitable for use on new build or refurbishment projects, Outsulation provides a finished surface, insulation and maximum weather protection in an integrated composite system.

The system is composed of an adhesively or mechanically-fastened foam insulation board, reinforcing mesh, a base coat and an outer finish coat.

By applying the finish on external walls, not only are the effects of air, wind and moisture penetration into a building reduced, but also interior environments are stabilised and thermal bridges eliminated.

Outsulation will appeal to architects and builders because of the design flexibility offered by the product: the expanded polystyrene is easily shaped and sculpted and can be used for making decorative bands, quoins and other attractive features. It is also a highly durable, competitively-priced alternative to conventional stucco or brick siding.

For home buyers, the beauty of the finish will certainly impress, as will the potential for savings in energy consumption and increased interior comfort.

"EIFS systems are becoming very popular amongst energy-conscious architects and builders," said Mike Cregan of Greenspan.

"Now that Building Energy Ratings have been introduced, a product like Outsulation is especially appropriate because it offers unbeatable insulating properties alongside major aesthetic benefits."

The standard Outsulation range is available in five different textures and over 360 different colour finishes. It can even be produced to mimic the appearance of natural stone, granite or brick.

Greenspan Products has been supplying the construction industry with cost-effective and eco-friendly products since 1999.

In addition to its external insulation systems, Greenspan supplies internal and external cement board systems and poured self-levelling floor screeds, all ideal for modern construction methods.

The company also offers a wide range of renders and professional tools.
