A major scheme to replace kitchens in 114 homes in the Braniel estate, Belfast, has commenced.
Commenting on the work, which is being undertaken by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, District Manager Paul Carland said: "I am delighted that we are able to proceed with this work which will see over £560,000 invested in much needed kitchen improvements in Braniel.
"As well as providing tenants with new modern kitchen facilities, we are also rewiring the homes and installing mains-powered smoke detectors to homes where these have not already been fitted," he said.
"Because of the extensive nature of the works, we are providing a day-time decanting facility for tenants while work is carried out to their homes. We have discussed arrangements with the tenants and will keep them informed as work progresses."
David Park, Chairperson of the Braniel Community Association, also welcomed the start of the scheme, saying: "We welcome this investment by the Housing Executive in Braniel. Residents were consulted during the planning of the scheme and had the opportunity to choose their own kitchen units.
"We feel sure the residents will be delighted with their new kitchens when the scheme is complete," added Mr Park.
