A new mixed use development has officially opened in Delvin, Westmeath, following a €3m construction project.
County council chairman Joe Whelan unveiled the scheme on Main Street, describing it as a much needed local facility.
Mr Whelan said the finished development represents many years of hard work and a contribution from many sources and agencies in the Delvin Area.
"It is a mixed-use development in every sense of the word as it has housing units, sporting facilities in the form of a handball arena, a community room and commercial shopping units," he said.
The eight housing units provided are a mixture of two and three bedroom dwellings.
Mr Whelan lauded the contribution from council staff and the various consultants involved in the project.
"I would also like to thank the contractor Michael Bracken & Sons Ltd from Clara for the successful completion of the project," he added.
The total development cost €3m, with funding contributed by the Department of Environment, the National Lottery and Westmeath County Council.
