Irish Tourism Minister Martin Cullen has launched the Dromoland Collection of Hotels including the official launch of the Castlemartyr Resort in East Cork, under the management of Dromoland Castle, County Clare - the first external management contract undertaken by Dromoland Castle.
The Castlemartyr Resort will reopen in April and comprises an 18th century manor house, golf course and other facilities. Its reopening will create up to 100 direct jobs and will support other employment in the region.
Speaking at the launch in Dublin, Minister Cullen said: "Castlemartyr is a fine addition to Ireland’s stock of world-class hotels. Its reopening in April is a most welcome initiative for the East Cork area and will create employment and considerably enhance the attractions of East Cork as a tourism destination.
"By creating a positive image of Ireland in the minds of millions of overseas visitors, this strengthens our attractiveness as a location for business, foreign direct investment and leisure activity," he said.
"We must continue to invest in our tourism product, our people, our culture and our 'Ireland' brand," said the Minister.
"The maintenance of a significant allocation for the 2009 Tourism Services Budget of almost €160m with €48.5m allocated specifically for front-line international marketing reflects the Government's continuing commitment to the development of tourism as an important economic sector."
