There is still no indication as to when a new water treatment plant will be built in the Cork town of Mallow, it has been revealed.
Speaking at a recent town council meeting, Assistant County Manager Tim Lucey said the scheme has faced further delays due to funding gaps.
He refused to confirm whether the facility At Box Cross would go ahead this year.
"I though that the Box Cross scheme would be imminent, but we will have to wait longer than thought. If we were to go to tender, who would fund it?
"It does not look like we will get to the stage that we will be able to sign for Box Cross," said Mr Lucey.
Town councillors, meeting last week, told Mr Lucey of the poor water supply for locals, due to the old pipes currently laid.
The present treatment plant in Mallow is over 40-years-old and is currently operating above its design capacity, they claimed.
