500 Building Jobs Mooted At Proposed Newry Development

Construction News Image
Around 500 much-needed construction jobs could be created if an ambitious £100m mixed-used development is approved in Newry.

Plans are afoot for a 32-acre development in the south of the city, which could see a massive supermarket, a 10 screen cinema, five restaurants, four office blocks, 29 homes and 66 business units built.

The developer behind the scheme, Hill Partnership, also intends to develop a landscaped parkland and car park at the site.

Neil Armstrong, property manager of the Hill Partnership said: "We believe that the site at Carnbane Way has significant potential for a number of mixed uses.

"Our proposals will bring important new and eagerly anticipated competition to the multiple food sector, as well as significant new leisure, social housing and employment uses to create a superb new dynamic for this strategic location in Newry.

"These plans offer a very attractive economic and social proposition for the city of Newry and will make a substantial contribution to the local economy through the generation of jobs and the attraction of investment to the area.

"The proposals will help to secure Newry's pre-eminent position as a hub for the Armagh and Banbridge area and will make the city even more attractive to visitors and shoppers," he said.

"We have already met with a range of political representatives and received widespread and enthusiastic support for these proposals.

"We have also held an open presentation of our proposals to hear the views of the local community and we will continue our engagement with local stakeholders as the plans go through the consultation process," added Mr Armstrong.
