Best Property services have confirmed that the site of the former Woolworths, Armagh has been agreed for lease this month to discount retail giant Around a Pound.
Woolworth in Armagh was one of 19 stores to close in January when the administrators were brought in amid mounting debts of £385m.
News that Around a Pound will take over the store in the spring will bring a welcome boost to the area after a series of bad news stories and job losses as national and local firms struggle in difficult economic circumstances.
Around a Pound Director Gerard Rice said: "We'll be reopening the doors of the former Woolworths with in the next few weeks and will be creating 20 jobs for the local economy.
"Our budget brand has grown from strength to strength in recent years and this is a prime site for us in the centre of Armagh in addition to our successful stores in Newry, Banbridge, Newcastle and Lurgan."
Conor Mallon from Best Property Services, who brokered the deal for the Upper English Street site, is delighted to see it back in retail use.
"It will revitalise the retail core of Armagh and bring new jobs back into the area. The site has had significant interest from a number of retailers and I'm delighted to announce that Around A pound will open its doors in April 09."
