Schlüter Protects The Edge Of The River

Tilers knew exactly what was needed to protect the edge of a river - the special Schlüter®-SCHIENE profile with radius perforations.

In a spectacular floor design in the middle of Ballymena Museum and Arts Complex, the river, made of resin, was bordered by ceramic tiles. Locally-based tiling contractors J & R Keys curved the Schlüter®-SCHIENE profile to the contours of the river as it meandered through the tiles.

Owner Jonathan Keys said his company always use Schlüter materials and for this particular job the Schlüter®-SCHIENE profile with radius perforations was absolutely perfect. "In fact, it was the only suitable material on the market to use for this process," he said.

The resin river which symbolises the Braid River running through Ballymena, was installed as part of a 3,000 square metre tiling project, which included four sets of stairs protected by Schlüter®-TREP-FL stair nosing profiles.

As well as creating individual tile fields with Schlüter®-DILEX-KS movement joint profiles to protect the tiled floor from movement, architects Consarc Design Group Ltd also specified Schlüter®-DILEX-EDP. Two different types of floor tile were used over the complete installation, manufactured by Kronos and Imola, with wall tiles from Pilkington's. The architects specified Mapei adhesives and grout for the project.

All the Schlüter products were supplied by J & W McCall, of Clough, County Down, with whom J & R Keys have had a working relationship for around 30 years.
