A £1m upgrade project at Carryduff's Lough Moss leisure centre has been given the go-ahead.
As part of the plans, a new 3G ground and five-a-side football pitch will be installed, as well as 24 new floodlights.
The scheme, which was approved last month, generated a mixed reaction from representatives at Castlereagh Borough Council.
DUP councillor Gareth Robinson argued that the 3G facility should be located in Dundonald, although he agreed Lough Moss was deserving of a refurbishment.
Geraldine Rice, a councillor for the ward of Carryduff, told Mr Robinson that east Belfast already has a 3G pitch.
She welcomed the planning approval, and encouraged more funding for the area.
"We are still unsure whether funding from Sports NI will be granted at Lough Moss."
The Alliance councillor said she will be taking a "wait and see" approach.
"However, Lough Moss is getting very run down and is in dire need of refurbishment, which will be happening whether we get a 3G pitch or not."
