Three new civic amenity sites have opened in Letterkenny, Milford and Dungloe.
The gates at the newly constructed facilities were opened to the public for the first time last week.
Each new site will cater for a wide range of materials for recycling, 27 items in total which includes glass, cans, paper, cardboard, plastic, waste electrical items, batteries, waste oils and many more.
"Some materials accepted for recycling will be charged for, for example the charge for a car full of paper, cardboard and plastic will be €10," said Suzanne Tinney, Waste Awareness Officer, Donegal County Council.
"Many items however can be recycled free of charge these include glass, cans, textiles, waste electrical items, waste batteries and bulbs."
In addition to the recycling facilities at the sites there is also the facility to dispose of one-off bulky items such as beds, mattresses, sofas, baths etc.
There is a separate range of charges based per item for such materials.
