TD Deirdre Clune has hit out at the government for cutting roads funding in County Cork.
She said the State's decision to slash Cork City and County Councils' roads budgets by over €20m will result in local roads slipping further into a state of "decay and dilapidation".
Cork County Council has seen its grant allocation reduced from €61,242,343 to €43,880,723.
This cutback of over €17m will be seen on local and regional roads across Cork over the next 12 months.
"Cork City Council's grant allocation for roads has been reduced from €6,979,000 to €4,265,000 by the Government, a €2,715,000 cutback," said Ms Clune.
"This funding is for local and regional road maintenance and repair work. Already we see the impact locally with little or no funding available for necessary maintenance and repair work across Cork.
"The government’s response to the financial crisis has been to tax families to near breaking point and cut back on vital services regardless of the long term damage they are doing," she said.
Ms Clune said the government's decision to cut the budget for local and regional roads in will do little to help the economy apart from providing a "legacy of infrastructural neglect for decades to come".
