Education Minister Batt O'Keeffe has opened a new €4m extension at Jesus and Mary Secondary School in Crossmolina, Co Mayo.
The new extension houses six new classrooms, architectural technology room, science lab, technology room, multi-media room, music suite, a computer aided design room and a new restaurant.
Opening the new extension, Minister O'Keeffe said the Sisters of Jesus and Mary had made an 'immense contribution' to the education of young people in Crossmolina and surrounding areas since the school opened in 1912.
"The new extension will enable the teachers and principal Geraldine Ruane to continue their excellent service to the education and learning needs of the pupils here," said Minister O'Keeffe.
"I commend the Sisters of Jesus and Mary for bequeathing their historic building for educational purposes.
"This school has had notable achievements in sport, art and music, winning numerous All Ireland titles.
"The promotion of sport in a school is important because it fosters a sense of teamwork and fair play, skills which will benefit the students through out their lives," said Minister O'Keeffe.
